Petroleum Workers halt sales in Chitwan

The Chitwan chapter of the All Nepal Petroleum Workers Association (ANPWA) has halted the sale of petroleum products from all petrol pumps of Chitwan on Thursday.

The workers resorted to the protest citing that the agreement forged on December 2, 2009 with the Petroleum Dealers’ Association (PDA) has not been abided by, they informed.

Petroleum import from Amlekhgunj was also halted today, the ANPWA informed.

Further, the workers have padlocked the offices of the PDA.

The protest will continue until the petrol pumps provide appointment letters to their staffs, as per the agreement made in the past, ANPWA Chairman Sanad Shrestha said.

However, PDA Chairman Raj Kumar Shrestha claimed that most of the petrol pumps have already provided appointment letters to their staffs, and some are in course of the same.

The petrol pump operators have appealed to the workers to find an alternative for the protest.

The workers and the PDA office bearers must hold discussions in resolve the issue as soon as possible, Bhuwan Subedi, Manager at the Om Sai Petro Center, Ramnagar, informed.

Consumers have been inconvenienced due to the obstruction of the sale of petrol.
